The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) was established in 1960, the same year Nigeria gained independence. It was first created as a branch of the British Red Cross Society. Later, in 1961, it became an independent national society by an Act of the Nigerian Government.
The Nigerian Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which was founded in 1863 by Henry Dunant. The Society works to prevent and relieve human suffering without discrimination. It provides humanitarian services such as first aid, disaster response, health services, blood donation support, maternal and child health programs, and community education.
